What are the uses of CALPOL 6 PLUS 250MG/5ML SYRUP?

Ibuprofen is used to relieve pain from various conditions such as headache dental pain menstrual cramps muscle aches or arthritis. It is also used to reduce fever and to relieve minor aches and pain due to the common cold or flu. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking your body’s production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. This effect helps to decrease swelling pain or fever.

What is the daily dosage of CALPOL 6 PLUS 250MG/5ML SYRUP?

Children aged 12-16 years: 10 – 15ml (Two to three 5 ml doses) up to 4 times a day

Adults and children over 16 years: 10 – 20 ml (Two to four 5 ml doses) up to 4 times a day.

Use in the Elderly

In the elderly the rate and extent of paracetamol absorption are normal but plasma half-life is longer and paracetamol clearance is lower than in young adults.

What is the Formula of CALPOL 6 PLUS 250MG/5ML SYRUP?

Calpol Six Plus Suspension contains Paracetamol 250 mg per 5 ml.

Excipients: sucrose (contains 2.1 g of sucrose per 5 ml), sorbitol liquid ((E420 contains 1.895 g sorbitol liquid per 5ml)), sodium (contains 1.3mg per 5ml), propylene glycol (E1520), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), and sunset yellow FCF (E110).

Use of CALPOL 6 PLUS 250MG/5ML SYRUP in Pregnancy and lactation

A large amount of data on pregnant women indicate neither malformations nor feto/neonatal toxicity. Epidemiological studies on neurodevelopment in children exposed to paracetamol in utero show inconclusive results. If clinically needed, paracetamol can be used during pregnancy however it should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time and at the lowest possible frequency.

When given to the mother in therapeutic doses (1 g single dose), paracetamol crosses the placenta into fetal circulation as early as 30 minutes after ingestion and is metabolized in the fetus by conjugation with sulfate and increasingly with glutathione.

Breast-feeding

Paracetamol is excreted in breast milk but not in a clinically significant amount. Available published data do not contraindicate breastfeeding.
