Zetro 250mg capsule belong to the class of antibiotics i.e. Azithromycin which is nitrogen containing macrolide or azalide for oral administration. Azithromycin exerts it antibacterial action by binding to the 50s ribosomal subunit of susceptible organisms and thus interfering with microbial protein synthesis and inhibition of peptide translocation. Nucleic acid synthesis is not effected.


Zetro 250mg capsule is indicated for the following conditions:

  • Upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Lower respiratory tract infections.
  • Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease in patients who require initial intravenous therapy.
  • Chlamydia trachomatis conjunctivitis and trachoma in adults and in children 12 months or older.
  • Prophylaxis and treatment of disseminated mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease in adults and children aged more than 12 years.

  • بڑوں میں اور 12 ماہ یا اس سے زیادہ عمر کے بچوں میں کلیمائڈیا ٹریچومیٹس آشوب چشم اور ٹریچوما۔
  • بالغوں اور 12 سال سے زیادہ عمر کے بچوں میں پھیلے ہوئے مائکوبیکٹیریم ایویئم کمپلیکس (MAC) کی بیماری کا پروفیلیکسس اور علاج۔




Zetro 250mg capsule may cause:

  • Very Common Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and flatulence.
  • Common Lymphocyte count decreased, eosinophil count increased, anorexia, dizziness, headache, paraesthesia, dysgeusia, deafness, vomiting, dyspepsia, rash, pruritus, arthralgia, fatigue and blood bicarbonate decreased.



Zetro 250mg capsule n is contraindicated:

  • In patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotics.
  • In patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior use of azithromycin.
  • To use concurrently with ergot derivatives


Zetro 250mg capsule should not be used in patients with pneumonia who are judged to be inappropriate for oral therapy because of risk factors such as:

  • Patients with cystic fibrosis.
  • Patients with nosocomially acquired infections.
  • Patients with known or suspected bacteremia.
  • Patients requiring hospitalization.
  • Elderly or debilitated patients.
  • Patients with significant underlying health problems that may compromise their ability to respond to their illness.


Zetro 250mg capsule have following interactions:

  • In patients receiving both azithromycin and antacids, the drugs should not be taken simultaneously.
  • If co-administration of these drugs is necessary, cyclosporine levels should be monitored and the dose adjusted accordingly.
  • Theophylline levels may be increased in patients taking azithromycin.
  • In patients receiving concomitant azithromycin, a related azalide antibiotic and digoxin, the possibility of raised digoxin levels should be borne in mind.


The usual adult dose of Zetro is 500mg as a single dose daily for 3 days.
